In the June 16 match at home v Atlanta United II, John Berner injured his Achilles heel during stoppage time and was unable to continue. Segbers moved into goal due to no additional substitutions being available for 901 FC and went on to earn the Save of the Week in fan voting.

Bad news: I got injured
Good news: I know how to come back from being injured ?

2017 Dec 12 – Berner Sings with Phoenix Rising FC (USL)
Berner had been a member of the Colorado Rapids since 2014 when he was the 35th overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft. He has appeared in five MLS matches, all in 2014, recording two shutouts with a 1.20 Goals Against Average.

2014 February 12 – Berner Signed by Colorado
The Colorado Rapids announced today that the club has signed goalkeeper John Berner, who was selected by the team with the 35th overall selection (second round) of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

2014 Jan 16 – John Berner Drafted by the Colorado Rapids

WHAT COACHES SAY: “John has a professional frame for a goalkeeer … Big wingspan, pretty explosive athletically … Multi-sport athlete until he got to college. Good hand-eye. Strong. Physically a professional frame. Good kicking game. Distribution good, both with throws and with his feet … He’s exceptional in terms of balls in the air. Good organizer and sees the game well … He’s more of your prototypical big organizer goalkeeper. Anything in his range is his. Big presence … He has a good chance to make a roster if he has opportunity to work his way in … Has to work on close reaction saves because he’s big guy and takes time to get down. But he has it in him to make the close reaction save to turn around a game … He can be more consistent … What impressed me about him was his presence and leadership. Kept calm with young guys in front of him.”

Earning your first professional start brings with it enough nerves, but earning that first start as a goalkeeper taking on Thierry Henry and the New York Red Bulls made things that much tougher for Colorado Rapids rookie John Berner.

Scored on by Thierry Henry, but TH was left wide open at the back post. Earned a point on the road! Game highlights below.

2014 March 15 – Berner earns first MLS start as Rapids open season at NYRB with a tie. Berner post-game interview included.

Happy Birthday to @ajpalazzolo98 (his 24th) as he prepares for his @mlsnextpro season with @stlcitysc
A bit of @stlcityacademy news - @mykhi_joyner is joining the U17 squad from SLSG. He's the lad that struck the late winner for the U16 SLSG team when they won the derby game in November. A very bright talent.
New Twitter account for this lad where he's posted a highlight video and it now also includes the goal he scored against Chicago to open the season and was the first goal for the Academy.
A reminder to make sure everything is charged up in case the weather causes outages
