Rock Bridge Bruins celebrate Quarterfinal win over Carthage on November 13, 2010

With the Gateway Classic departing, a group of teams have pulled together a new competitive opportunity for this weekend. The inaugural Rock Bridge Invitational kicked off Thursday with a pair of local games and the six teams will gather in Columbia Friday and Saturday to complete the event.

The event has some nice match ups, especially in light of the most recent Coaches Poll. Three Top 10 teams from Class 3 including a final match on Saturday between #1 Summit and #2 Glendale. Class 4 Kirkwood, ranked 5th in the latest poll, will come to town looking to keep their positive momentum going against Rock Bridge, Zumwalt South and KC East.

A bit of @stlcityacademy news - @mykhi_joyner is joining the U17 squad from SLSG. He's the lad that struck the late winner for the U16 SLSG team when they won the derby game in November. A very bright talent.
New Twitter account for this lad where he's posted a highlight video and it now also includes the goal he scored against Chicago to open the season and was the first goal for the Academy.
